About Membrane Switches
A membrane switch can be thought of as a multi-layered polyester “sandwich.”
The bottom layer and the inside top layer are screened with silver conductive
ink. These layers of circuitry are separated by an insulation layer
that keeps the contact points away from each other. The outside top layer
can be covered with a graphic overlay keypad. By pressing the keypad
the conductive layers make contact.
